Before joining Baron’s art department, I was a graphic designer for three years, as well as an art instructor, since 1997 to present. Initially a watercolor artist, I adapted to pen and ink for my work at Baron. Working on firearms’ unique shapes really keeps an artist on their toes, and after 15 years, there are still interesting and fun challenges.

I started out in the jewelry industry as a goldsmith, specializing in mechanical pieces such as clasps and hinges; also did a lot of sterling and antique repair and restoration. Developed an interest in engraving and did a fair amount before going off on my own. Took a brief 20-year break from that and started a company, Connecticut Coppersmiths, that made “hammered copper wall decor for home and garden.”
After 20 years and 10,000 pieces of copper sold at wholesale all over the world, I was burned out and was looking for something else to do, when I received a call from Paul Lantuch, who I knew through my wife, for whom we did jewelry work. He offered me a job as an engraver at Sturm, Ruger Inc., as he was charged with starting its “Studio of Art & Decoration,” after the passing of Bill Ruger, Sr. I worked there for almost five years, until the Ruger Studio was absorbed by Baron.

When I started at Baron, being an illustrator helped me to catch on quickly to the skills I would require to paint stocks, insert gold inlay and, eventually, engrave firearms. My goal is to improve my engraving skills to one day become a master engraver.

I strive to ensure excellence in any project I work on, both through individual effort and team collaboration. Working at Baron Engraving has been the most fulfilling career choice I have ever made. It is rare to find a company where true mentoring is a natural part of its fabric, but that is what I have found here. I think we are about as close to family as one can get in a work environment, and I think it's wonderful.
